About Me…

Welcome to "The Sacred Quest," a space I've crafted for men seeking to embark on or enrich their spiritual journey towards authenticity. I'm Stephen, the founder, and I'm excited to welcome you.

My inspiration for founding "The Sacred Quest" stems from my own profound journey. Five years ago, I felt a deep call within to delve deeper into my connection with the divine. This pursuit not only deepened my relationship with God but also sparked a transformative inner evolution. Little did I know how much I would need this in the years to come.

My transformation was nurtured by three crucial elements: dedicated contemplative spiritual practice rooted in ancient monastic wisdom, guidance from experienced mentors who've journeyed similar paths, and the nurturing support of communities that fostered relationships that both teach and hold me accountable.

Additionally, I found in both my church life and in the communities I joined during my spiritual journey, I was one of only a few men. It seems that men either felt uncomfortable in traditional spiritual spaces or put off their journey due to other commitments.

In "The Sacred Quest," I aim to provide these essential elements while recognizing the uniqueness of each individual's journey. That's why I offer various levels of engagement tailored to meet you wherever you are along your path.

With a theological background including a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York City and ordination in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), I've served as a parish pastor for nearly a decade. Additionally, I served as chaplain for a K-12 independent school in Connecticut, served as a small group facilitator and mentor at the Federal Correctional Institute in Danbury, Connecticut and have been trained in The Circle Way method of hosting conversations. Finally, I have recently completed Richard Rohr’s intensive two-year Living School program at the Center for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

I currently live in NYC with my wife and two daughters.

I am deeply passionate about the process of spiritual growth and development, and I'm honored at the prospect of walking alongside you as you heed the profound call within.

Learn more about our “Quests”

  • Our most recommended quest.

The most valuable learning and lessons come from community. Additionally, sometimes a community can help us stay dedicated to our new spiritual practice. In this quest, there will be weekly and monthly events for men to gather and practice together. These events will include:

Contemplative Sit - a session where we invite silence into our lives. Stephen will invite us into a time of quiet where we work through our thoughts and feelings that work to distract us from coming in contact with our core self. These sessions will be 30 minutes in length, usually taking place in the morning multiple times per week.

Lectio Divina - a latin term meaning “divine reading,” this practice was developed by our desert mothers and fathers and used in monasteries throughout history and even still to this day. Lectio is an intimate way of reading scripture in which we listen for a divine message meant specifically for us through the words of scripture. In our practice we will use Biblical scriptures as well as other sacred texts by spiritual writers. These sessions are 1-hour in length and take place weekly.

Circle Processing - We as men don’t often allow ourselves to have deeply meaningful conversations. Using the “circle method” of conversations, a way of holding facilitated, non-hierarchical conversations that encourage us to speak and listen from the heart, Stephen will host these conversations which are centered around a particular question. These circles will are 1.5 - 2 hours in length and will take place twice per month.

  • Oftentimes it is helpful to have someone walk with us in our spiritual journey. The Guided Quest will invite you to take part in our community events but also have Stephen serve as your fellow journeyman. Once a month you will meet 1-on-1 with Stephen for a session of Spiritual Direction.

Spiritual direction is simply having a companion to listen deeply to your experiences and thoughts and help you explore new possibilities, deepen your divine relationship, and connect to your deepest and truest self. It is truly spirit filled work.

  • If you are just wanting to explore your spirituality but not ready to join a community, this is for you. This quest will give you access to our membership website that will have prayers, guided meditations, journaling prompts, recommended readings and videos, and more.
